FAST-GROWING DEVELOPER CONTINUES EXPANSION St James Parade, South Wales’s newest residential developer, is planning a new high-quality apartment and townhouse complex overlooking one of the region’s most historic country parks. The developer has acquired a development site adjacent to the renowned Bedwellty Park, Tredegar, where it is proposing a high-grade residential scheme. Rob Slocombe, Director of St James Parade, said, “Tredegar is a town in the ascendancy and we are delighted to have been able to secure the site off Stable Lane, following which we have begun very encouraging discussions with the planning authority. “We are particularly keen to ensure that our proposed development will transform a site which is currently a derelict eyesore to enhance the setting of the adjacent Bedwellty Park, while bringing much-needed new quality housing to the town. “We are committed to producing a high standard of urban design for Stable Lane.” Bedwellty House and Park, Tredegar, recently achieved the first stage
of funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to enable major redevelopment. In 1901 the ironmaster handed over ownership of the 26 acre park to the town and the house subsequently became home to the local council until 1974. St James Parade (www.stjamesparade.co.uk) has been created by two former Redrow regional managing directors, Glyn Mabey and Rob Slocombe. They have amassed 40 years’ combined experienced in the industry, Glyn Mabey having most recently been Managing Director of Redrow Homes (South Wales) Ltd and Rob Slocombe having been Managing Director of Redrow Homes (South West) Ltd. The developer has recently started on site at a new 47-homes scheme, Cyfarthfa Mews, Merthyr. It is also planning new developments on sites at Pontardawe and Morriston, near Swansea. St James Parade has been created with the intention of building 150 homes a year over its first phase of growth, in a region stretching from Carmarthenshire to Wiltshire, on sites holding anything from a dozen to more than 100 units. Mr Mabey added, “There continues to be a huge thirst for new-build homes and we have identified an opening for a new company that sits slightly under the national builders, combining their best qualities with an emphasis on added value, quality, flexibility and the personal touch that a non-volume driven private developer can offer.”
